LEGO TECHNIC Mini Bulldozer 8259

I think this is one of the best little sets to come out in 2009. The A model is a bulldozer and the B model is an excavator. Both are nifty little designs; they have great playability and are very sturdy. A word of warning: this is a very small set (see my photo). However, if you can find it at MSRP, it is currently one of the lowest priced Lego vehicles (as per Amazon policy I cannot quote MSRP here). Do your research as this is supposed to be less expensive than the Lego Front-End Loader (#7630) and the same price as the Lego Tractor (#8260).

LEGO Star Wars Clone Walker Battle Pack (8014)

We got this to put together with my four year old son. Overall you get a good amount for your money. There are four stormtroopers and the walker. For us the stormtroopers get played with more than anything else. The walker is cool, but the legs fall off really easy and they have to be bent at exactly the right angle for it to stand up. I know it is meant for older children but it kind of frustrated my son when he couldn't get it to stand up. Also getting the missle to shoot, doesn't work all that well. You are supposed to pop them out of the side and it's a hard thing to do, even for me and my husband.br /br /Overall a pretty good set. All the stormtroopers are awesome, but the walker doesn't stay together as well as it could.

LEGO City Train Starter Set

This train is so great. It goes fast if you want it to. It stays on the track very well. I recently changed my track from a race-like track to a cruvy, twisty track. I can still go fast, and the cars do not fall over. They can handle speed well. The station included is nice, but the big yellow one is better. It is good to buy extra track because an oval can get boring very quickly, but this is only a starter set. The remote is great as well. I am glad Lego came out with a train that is much more affordable than the 9v sets. With the 9v, the only pro that I can see is not having to change any batteries. But, the speed regulator must stay in one location, unless you want to move it to another piece of track. But then you have to worry about the wires. Thew 9v is good for someone who has a huge train layout, but still the RC can be just as good, or better. With the RC trains, there is a wireless remote, and the train tracks are less expensive because they do not conduct electricity. Rechargeable batteries are a good money-saving option. I have Energizer batteries. The train is quiet, but not too quiet. With the RC trains, you can expand your railroad much less expensively.

LEGO Creator Propeller Power (6745)

The Lego Creator 3-in-1 sets are very well designed, fun to build, and excellent value. While I'm much older than the 7-12 age range I can say that building the prop. plane was an entertaining way to spend the best part of an hour. The durability of this model is better than most Lego models, although clearly it would not fair well if dropped. While I enjoyed building the model I am not convinced that my 7 year old would be able to complete it unassisted; this is very common with Lego sets where the lower and upper age ranges are a little optimistic. Overall this set comes highly recommended. If you like this set try these: LEGO Creator Race Rider, LEGO Creator Red Car, and LEGO Creator Street Speeder.

I think this toy is a lot of fun, and I am amazed at how real it looks. I think the only bad part is the three engines come off pretty easily, otherwise it is great fun and you can just fit a mini figure in with a small helmet . The Hubble Telescope is also very fun.

LEGO City Rescue Helicopter

I live below the flight path for our local Life Flight helicopter and my son and I enjoy watching it pass overhead when we can get outside fast enough. So we both enjoy playing with this set. The design, while a little funky, is still awesome - very Life Flight looking. The helicopter looks sleek, fast and efficient. The winch is a nice touch but doesn't leave much room inside for maneuvering figures around - that is the only real downside I found with it. I love the way different parts of the helicopter open for tools and such and it just looks so cool. Good job Lego!
